More information about RSS feeds

What is RSS?

Real Simple Syndication (RSS) or as some refer to it, Rich Site Summary, is a means of receiving content (such as news headlines) without requiring users to constantly visit a Web site to see what's new. Updates to the site are broadcast to subscribers through a RSS feed. When you subscribe to a RSS feed, a new item will appear in your feed reader every time new information is added to the relevant section of the Web site.

Why use RSS?

  • RSS allows you to select the type of news and information you get from Web sites.
  • Once you download your news reader, you can customize it to go and gather the news every five minutes, or every hour – it's your choice.
  • Because you don't have to subscribe to email lists you have less risk of getting unsolicited (spam) email.

How do I subscribe to RSS feeds?
