Statement by Wendy A. Tadros, Chair, Transportation Safety Board of Canada
Gatineau, Quebec, 23 April 2014 - I am encouraged by the Minister of Transport's strong response to the Board's recommendations. It is my hope these measures will reduce the risks identified in the Lac-Mégantic investigation and improve the safety of Canada's rail system.
In the coming weeks, we will be studying all of the details of today's announcement in order to fully assess and rate Transport Canada's responses to these important recommendations.
The TSB is an independent agency that investigates air, marine, pipeline, and rail transportation occurrences. Its sole aim is the advancement of transportation safety. It is not the function of the Board to assign fault or determine civil or criminal liability.
